The Lu Group focuses on adolescent health and healthcare disparities, aiming to achieve health equity for minority and underserved populations. They examine behavioral, psychosocial, and contextual factors contributing to disparities in adolescent mental health (e.g., depression, anxiety), substance use behaviors (e.g., alcohol, tobacco, and drug use), and healthcare service utilization. Dr. Lu leads multiple projects, including an NIH/NIMHD-funded study developing an online mental anti-stigma intervention for Chinese American adolescents and parents. Her work has been published in high-impact journals and featured in national and international media, including the JAMA Network Open, the Journal of Adolescent Health, the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, and the Psychiatry Research. Dr. Lu’s research has also been featured in the popular national and international press, including Time, United Press International, NJTV News, and Philadelphia Inquirer. Dr. Lu has received prestigious awards, including the 2017 NIMHD Health Disparities Research Institute scholarship and the 2018 Judy K. Black Early Career Research Award of the American Academy of Health Behavior.
