PA Progression and Graduation Requirements
The CUNY School of Medicine PA Program is a full-time, 28-month graduate program composed of seven consecutive semesters. Students must meet strict academic and professional standards to advance through each phase and graduate.
Program Structure
- Duration: 28 months (80 credits)
- Phases: Didactic (16 months) and Clinical (12 months)
- Advanced Standing: Not offered — no transfer credits or course substitutions accepted.
Coursework and Performance
- A minimum grade of 70% (C) is required in all courses.
- Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA each semester and cumulatively.
- All required courses must be completed as scheduled to progress. Incomplete coursework may result in delay, deceleration, or dismissal.
Remediation and Repeat Policies
- Failure in didactic courses may lead to dismissal.
- In the clinical phase, failure in a supervised clinical practice experience (SCPE) may require remediation (course repeat), causing graduation delays.
- A maximum of one SCPE courses may be repeated. Failing more than two leads to dismissal.
- Remediation may incur additional tuition and fees.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate, students must:
- Complete all coursework in both phases.
- Pass the End of Curriculum MCQ exam and Summative OSCE, and Summative Clinical Technical Skills OSCE with a 70% or higher.
- Fulfill all technical standards and professional conduct expectations.
- Be in good academic standing as reviewed by the Course & Standing Committee.
Academic Standing and Advisement
- Students are assigned an academic advisor at matriculation.
- Those falling below academic or conduct standards may face probation or dismissal.
- Final progression decisions are made by the Course & Standing Committee each semester.
Technology Requirement
Students must maintain stable internet access for participation in remote instruction or assessments.
