Sophie Davis Accelerated BS in Biomedical Science

The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education’s accelerated three-year BS in Biomedical Science program provides an innovative and accessible path to medical education.

Our program offers a unique premedical curriculum which integrates rigorous training in foundational sciences with community health sciences. Beginning with our Summer Prematriculation Program after high school, our intensive three-year BS curriculum prepares undergraduates for medical school and future careers as clinically expert and socially responsible physicians.

Freshman Year (U1):
Introduction to Community-focused Pre-Medical Training

The undergraduate pre-medical education journey blends foundations in the basic sciences with a broader understanding of society. Students learn to articulate complex scientific ideas clearly and examine global health issues to understand how medicine intersects with communities and cultures. With a focus on narrative medicine and professional foundations, students gain a deeper understanding of compassionate care and the societal implications of healthcare.

Sophomore Year (U2):
Bridging Science and Society in Healthcare

Students advance to more complex and integrative sciences focused on their applications in medicine. Learning about human genetics alongside the role of psychology in healthcare, students examine the biological factors that influence health and gain insights into human behavior and its impact on treatment. Students also build a foundation in epidemiology and biostatistics, learning to analyze health trends and assess community needs. During the summer, students have their first opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community settings around New York City.

Junior Year (U3):
Integrating Science, Ethics, and Practice in Medicine

Students explore the structure and function of cells, tissues, organ systems and the human body through functional histology, physiology, pharmacology and clinical anatomy. They also expand their understanding of the U.S. healthcare system and its policies, alongside the moral and ethical considerations in healthcare.
