Since its creation, the CUNY School of Medicine’s mission has been to educate outstanding, talented students who will as physicians who are dedicated to serving and meeting the communities experiencing healthcare provider shortages throughout NYC. The Master of Professional Studies in Healthcare Sciences (MPS-HS) program is a new graduate program for applicants who dream of pursuing a medical education and share the same dedication to serving as physicians in areas with provider shortages.

The MPS-HS program consists of an advanced science curriculum, designed to equip students with fundamental knowledge and preparation for the rigorous MD program curriculum. It will be completed in two semesters of full-time study during the fall and spring.

The MPS-HS program will:

  • provide advanced training in the biomedical sciences and principles of public health
  • prepare students for the rigorous nature of a medical school curriculum and
  • enhance the academic preparation of students who wish to pursue admission to the CUNY School of Medicine Doctor of Medicine program

The scientific curriculum is complemented by coursework that emphasizes healthcare systems, population research, and community-based inquiry. Students complete a two-semester Capstone Independent Study course, strengthening scientific research skills while gaining familiarity with topics related to improving healthcare delivery, education in medicine, community engagement, and advocacy.
