Office of Research

The Office of Research is the driving force behind CUNY Medicine’s research enterprise, providing faculty with the critical support needed to secure and manage external funding from federal, state, and private foundations. The office ensures faculty have the resources and guidance to advance cutting-edge research that shapes the future of medicine.

Committed to fostering a thriving research environment, the office facilitates mentorship for junior faculty, offers grant-writing workshops, and helps faculty identify and pursue funding opportunities. It provides a full range of pre-and post-award services, including

• Identifying external funding sources, preparing budgets and sponsor forms, interpreting guidelines, and managing subcontract negotiations.
• Assisting with CUNY Research Foundation account management, sponsor agency requirements, budget modifications, no-cost extensions, and annual report preparation.

Led by Maria F. Lima, PhD, Sr. Associate Dean for Research and Strategy, the office works closely with the Associate Vice Chancellor and University Vice Provost for Research, Rosemarie D. Wesson, PhD, and the President of the Research Foundation of The City University of New York, Héctor Cordero-Guzmán, PhD, to expand research opportunities, strengthen graduate education, and ensure regulatory compliance. The office provides essential support throughout the funding lifecycle, enabling faculty to focus on advancing scientific discovery and improving healthcare outcomes.

The Office for Grants & Sponsored Programs

The CUNY School of Medicine Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs provides comprehensive support to research faculty throughout the grant lifecycle. The grants staff works closely with our investigators on identifying funding opportunities,  developing proposals, preparing budgets , and providing expert guidance to ensure compliance with institutional and sponsor requirements. Post-award services include assisting Investigators with the fiscal management of an award, reporting, and adherence to all sponsor policies. The Office of Research Grants & Sponsored Programs Office provides faculty with expert administrative support to secure intramural and extramural funding and contributes to our robust research ecosystem.
