Department of Medical Education

The Department of Medical Education oversees and enhances the school’s medical education program. The department’s vision is to provide high-quality education to students and create a collaborative environment that supports the growth of our faculty as scholars and effective educators.

We provide administrative support for designing, implementing, and evaluating courses and clerkships. Our faculty provide didactic sessions incorporating active learning strategies for several courses including Organ System Modules, Practice of Medicine, Longitudinal Clinical Experience, and Clinical Clerkships and Electives. Our faculty develop, administer and mentor students during patient simulation and the standardized patient experiences. In addition, our faculty serve as academic coaches for our students. The Department provides oversight for compliance with accreditation educational standards. We develop and manage institutional affiliations with our clinical partner sites and facilitate academic appointments for our affiliate faculty to the CUNY School of Medicine.

We partner with the Curriculum Committee and the Learning Resource Center by providing data and administrative support to facilitate course reviews and evaluation of the curriculum.

The Department engages in faculty development, and scholarly research into effective means to deliver medical education, and in continuous curricular quality improvement.
